Hi,
I have been running a single VM in VMware Server for a while, with Fedora Core 6 as the host OS, and WinXP as the guest.
The XP guest is generally under high i/o load (running NewsLeecher), and today I got sick of the very poor performance and I decide to do something about it
1 / I installed a dedicated SATA disk, and imaged the contents of my vmdk to the raw disk
2 / I placed the vmware "home" folder (that contains the vmx files etc) on another unused spindle
I am still getting poor performance. I have 2GB of RAM, I have the VM with 600GB of RAM, and the host OS is not using any swap.
Basically if I watch iostat, as I load up Virtual Machine, the load on the disk with the vmware "home" folder maxes out!!!!!!, while the actual disk the XP guest is running on is only 20-30% loaded. This results in IO pauses in the XP guest as it waits for whatever is going on in the home folder
Anyone know what is going on here?
