Upgrade slowed down performance

Hi!

I had a OpenSuse 10.2 box running with Vmware Server 1.0.3. There is one Windows SBS Premium 2003 Server and several Linux machines running.

After upgrade to OpenSuse 10.3 Vmware could not be compiled anymore. So I upgraded to Vmware Server 1.0.4 which compiled and started without any problems.

BUT:  especially the windows guest is running very slow. Sometimes it runs so slow, that some services logged timeout messages (even the ntfs drivers logged timeout).

Newest Vmware tools have been installed but that does not help. It also seems that all machines (even the host) run slow when there is much disk access. But this is just a subjective impression.

Host is 64 Bit, guests are 32 Bit. Windows guest has 2GB memory and all other Linux machines have enough memory so they do not swap. Total memory is 8GB. Core2Quad Q6600, P965 Chipset, Seagate 320GB SATA Harddrives with software mirroring (Linux md devices).

I could not see any significant message in the logs.

any suggestions?
