I have VMware Server 1.0.1 build 29996 installed, and have created several large W2K3 VMs on my machine, which I connect to with the VMware Server Console, connecting to local host. I use snapshots frequently and backup entire VMs to add granularity to the snapshots.
But I keep having VMware Server crash/hang/fail on me whenever I attempt to remove a snapshot after copying a VM.
To repeat:
1) suspend VM
2) create snapshot
3) resume VM
4) make changes (install stuff)
5) suspend VM
6) copy entire VM folder to create a backup
7) open the backup VM in the VMware server console
8) remove snapshot
At this point, if you look in the folder for the backup VM, you see LCK files created VMDK and VMSD files, but nothing else happens.
You'll also notice that the VMware Server Console has now locked up with an hour glass, and after a number of minutes, eventually the console disconnects.
If I restart all the VMware services, I can reconnect to the local host and open the VM. But the LCK files still exist, so when I attempt to resume suspended the VM, I get an error saying "Cannot open the disk 'c:\folder\vm.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: Failed to lock the file."
If I look in the Snapshot menu, the snapshot appears to have been removed.
If I reboot my host machine, then I get the same error, but the lock files appear to be cleared out and the VM finally resumes.
Any help would be appeciated.
