I am currently using VMware server 1.0.3 on a Unbuntu host, with a Windows 98SE guest whose files are all on a USB 2.0 flash drive. This works, except that "disc" access, as seen by the guest, is quite slow (booting the guest, opening programs on the guest, etc.) I am NOT attempting to access the USB drive from the guest (it doesn't have a drive letter as seen by the guest OS); I'm just using the USB drive as the place to keep the various files created when I generated the guest under VMware server 1.0.3. (in comparison, putting the same files on the host's internal hard drive has no such slowness, but that defeats the way I want to use VMware server.)
I built this arrangement a couple of months ago, and other than the disc access speed issue, I'm happy with the result.
The question is this - has VMware server moved to a version later than 1.0.3 that would improve upon this condition? I am currently using VMware under the no-cost license obtained on-line when I downloaded the VMware server 1.0.3 program, and would intend to continue with that sort of license arrangement.
Very tks for any advice/pointers (I'm a relative beginner and enjoying the learning experience offered by VMware's decision to make the server application available).
