Last night I had a long night moving around disks and the lie on a GSX box, converting non-preallocated disks to preallocated etc.
After I had the DBA team check the machine and we did some other clever changes of volumes on the guest machine we all said good night....
I then went to RDP to the SQL guest and.... It was shutdown! Panic! Why....
I looked in the vmware.log file and found:
Jan 30 20:23:23: vmx| DISKLIB-LIB :numIOs = 50000 numMergedIOs = 0 numSplitIOs = 0
Jan 30 20:42:28: vcpu-1| GuestRpc: Channel 1 reinitialized.
Jan 30 20:42:49: mks| SOCKET 1 recv error 10054: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
Jan 30 20:42:49: mks| SOCKET 1 destroying VNC backend on socket error: 10054
Why should this be... Did some googles... found a reference to a hardware error....
But no it was that stupid default in GSX that the machine starts as currently logged on user and not local system!!!
Just though I would share this info as it would have been great to have found this post last night in my panic as to why the SQL box had suddenly crashed and powered off!!!!!
