I am sure people have seen this error a million times and read many articles on how to correct X11 authentication errors. I know the solutions and that is not really the issue here. My discussion is more related to a side effect of this problem, that IMAO should be considers a serious bug. Has anyone else noticed in Linux anyway ( in my case RHEL5 Server) that when an X11 authentication error occurs while trying to connect to a VMWare Server host from a remote client, any and all servers that have tabs displayed in the Server Console POWER OFF immediately. Let me give more details
I have Server A which is hosting some virtual machines. Server A is a linux host.
I am on another linux machine eg. Desktop B
I ssh into Server A from Desktop B and then log in as root on Server A. Then launch vmware from command line. It appears in the X Server of Desktop B (My desktop)
I select in vmware console to connect to localhost and connect. If X11 authentication is working fine, I can interact with the VMs. However, should there be an issue and I get the "wrong authentication" error message, I cannot connect. That is fine. However, if I check state of VMs on Server A, they are powered off. This is NOT fine
I guess first off, am I the only one that is seeing this?
I have tested and found this to be the case for VMware Server 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 so far.
