I have two DVD burners on my CentOS 5.0 host box and I'm running VMS 1.03 with a Windows XP guest. I noticed that the Windows guest was CONSTANTLY accessing the DVD drivers, like once per second. I reconfigured them not to be connected at power on, but then they came up anyway and displaced two of my network drives until I reconfigured them around that.
1) I don't want to have to reconfigure the DVD drives every time I boot the VM, and I'm not sure that this is a good permanent solution.
2) I don't want the guest to be accessing the drives all the time.
Note that it doesn't matter whether I have a disc in the drive or not. As it happens, I have my CentOS DVD in one drive and the other is usually empty.
Do I need to de-configure the drives altogether? That would not be a good choice.
BTW, I also run CentOS 5.0 with VMWare Workstation 5.5.4 at work with a Windows guest, and it has the same problem with my DVD burner (single drive) there, too.
Thanks.
