Hi All,
I have a Dell 1950 with 2 Quade Core CPU's, 16 GB RAM, 4 2.5" 146 GB SAS drives in RAID 5 and Windows 2003 server x64. I installed Vmware server 1.0.5 and am running three virtual machines , each with 2 GB RAM. The 3 vm's are a AD server, Exchange 2007 and a XP client for testing a new domain. My vmware console keeps crashing and says "Failed to fit guest to window. Pipe connection broken?". Also, I noticed that CPU and RAM on the Host machine are barely used (as expected), page file usage is at 8 GB and disk is thrashing so hard (all lights on the 4 drives are flashing furiously) that all VM's are unusable. Please check screenshots of perfmon attached.
I have tried:
Disabling windows file indexing>Defrag.
Dialing down RAM to 1 GB
Disabling large memory optimization in vmware ( adding these lines ot the vmx file
sched.mem.pshare.enable = "FALSE"
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"
MemTrimRate = "0"
MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE")Set Processors to 1 in the VM.
Resized Page File to see if I could force the vm's to use RAM alloted to them in stead of using page file.
Ensure that "Fit all Virtual machine memory into reserved host RAM" option is checked.
Did I miss something or do I need to provide more information?
Any and all assistance is appreciated-Thanks Guys,
Adipolle
