VM and Floppy Drive detection problems

Hi,

I hope someone has an idea to my problem, because its driving me around the bend!!

I'm running VMWare Server on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 host. The Vm is also running Server2003 SP2. I am trying to get the VM to access a USB Floppy Drive which I have plugged into the host.

The host recongises it fine, and numerous other VMs on the host recognise it fine, but for some reason this one VM won't recongise it!

When I try to add a floppy drive to the VM ( VM > Settings > Hardware tab > Add > Floppy Drive > Use a physical floppy drive), only "Auto Detect" is available in the drop down list, in the others i have Auto Detect (A:\) and A:\. If i proceed with just auto detect I get an error on VM startup stating "Cannot connect virtual device floppy0. No corresponding device is available on the host. Would you like an attempt to be made to connect this virtual device every time you power on the virtual machine?", so I click yes and get an error saying "Virtual device floppy0 will start disconnected..

I've rebooted the host, I've disabled and enabled the floppy drive on the host. I've tried a different floppy dirve and all this with no luck whatsoever.

What I found strange was that if I start up the VM after I receive these error messages, open up windows explorer, I can see a Floppy drive at A:\, but this isn't the floppy drive I want as it just states there is no disk in the drive if I try to open it. This happens even though VMWare Server says taht the floppy drive is disconnected.

Any help to diagnosing this would be very much appreciated!!

Regards,

Alex
