Please help... I am having trouble getting Vmware to utilize a 2.044 TB RAID volume as a physical disk.
I am preparing a new Dell 2900 server that is using Ubuntu Server 7.10 (32 bit) as the host OS and running VMWare Server 1.04. It will eventually have about 5 Windows Server 2003 virtual machines. Most are small, dedicated service VM's that will do fine in a virtual disk.
But I want one of them to host user files on a 2.044 TB RAID 5 volume. I can't get it to work for anything over 1TB. If its over 1 TB, the guest only sees a small portion of the physical disk. If its 2TB or over, VMWare won't even let me create it in the first place. It will complain about a volume larger than 2TB. I started out trying to utilize the whole 2.044 TB volume and got over 2TB error. So I then created a partition (/dev/sdc1) for 1.999TB and it worked, but the virtual machine only saw 650 something MB.
Would loading 64bit Ubuntu server and 64 bit Vmware server fix this issue or is there some way I can make it work with 32bit like I have it now?
Formatting to ext3 and using virtual disks limits me 950GB which is too small for what I need.
