debian etch and sarge time drift/clock sync problems

I have played around with vmware-server lately and found it most valuable, evenconsidering buying ESX.

However I have come across the time-drift/clock-sync problem reported by numerous others in this forum. I have tried both debian arge and etch as guest os.

with etch the problem is easily solved by giving the kernel parameters:

acpi=off nosmp noapic nolapic clock=pit

with sarge however this doesn't quite do it. even when installing vmware-tools in the guest sarge-installation and give the configureoption to sync clock with host the clock still laggs behind. When the time difference between the host and the guest is more than two-three minutes, the guest os resetts the clock to that of the host (I guess this is done by vmware-tools?)

So: Does anyone know what is the difference between sarge and etch that would cause such different behaviour?

does it have to do with the HZ value i've seen mentioned in some posts?

How may I find out at what HZ value the kernel is running?

Sorry for bad english...

Thanks for any answear

Best Regards
