Virtual machines are shut down with vmmon vcpu-0 errors (VMware Server)

We have two VMware Server hosts at present. One is behaving nicely, but is also only running one virtual host at the moment. The other 'randomly' shuts down virtual hosts. Both were running VMware Server 1.0.0 until recently. I have not upgraded the problem machine to 1.0.2 and it seemed to run quite well, but over the weekend I got this message:

\*** VMware Server internal monitor error ***

vcpu-0:DoubleFault @ 0x4020:0x59983 (0xffc,0x1018)

Please report this problem by selecting menu item Help > VMware on the Web > Request Support, or by going to the Web page "http://www.vmware.com/info?id=8&logFile=%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fvmware%2FVirtual%20Machines%2FSLOX%2DVM%2Fvmware%2Elog&coreLocation=%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fvmware%2FVirtual%20Machines%2FSLOX%2DVM%2Fvmware%2Dcore%2Egz". Please provide us with the log file (/var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines/SLOX-VM/vmware.log) and the core file (/var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines/SLOX-VM/vmware-core.gz).

If the problem is repeatable, please set 'Logging level' to 'Debug' in the Misc panel of Virtual Machine Settings. Then reproduce the incident and file it according to the instructions.

To collect files to submit to VMware support, run vm-support.

We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement.

We appreciate your feedback,

I have read three other topics in these forums of problems running VMware Server on newer kernels etc...

I'm running these on SLES9 and the kernel version is 2.6.5-7.276 (hmm, needs the latest updates...) which is hardly 'new'. I have never had the host system freeze or crash but nearly all the virtual machines have died at one point or another.

Before I installed 1.0.2 I saw these two errors, there have been many more, but the console wasn't running for most of them...

I'm updating the host OS now and rebooting but I have a sneaking suspision that I'll see this happen again. I have the core files etc. lying around still if it could be of help in tracking down the issue.

I'm turning on Debugging to have more information next time.

If more information is needed, then just ask.

/Martin.
