What exactly does vmware-tools do in FreeBSD? And why is it so hard to find specific information about the function of vmware tools?

The manual says very little on the subject (http://pubs.vmware.com/server1/vm/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=vm&file=tools_gsx.html). The most complete information I can find that vmware-tools is:

"A set of VMware device drivers, including an SVGA display driver, the vmxnet networking driver for some guest operating systems, the BusLogic SCSI driver for some guest operating systems, and the VMware mouse driver."

My questions:

Are all these drivers installed for each guest OS (I'm specifically interested in FreeBSD)?

Is there an LSILogic SCSI driver?

Do the SCSI drivers improve disk performance in any way, or are they only for the purpose of shrinking the virtual disk?

If I have no GUI, no Mouse, e1000 ethernet ONLY (no vmxnet), and the virtual disk is ide; is there a reason to install vmware tools (aside from the party line of "just do it, it is good for you"?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers,
