The subject pretty well says it all.
Running VMware server on a Vista x64 host as a temporary measure while a bigger box is without a mainboard. The VMs are a Windows XP machine and a Windows 2003 Server running RDP. Both were working fine until today. I was getting an error that my license (my free license?) had expired. I read a bit and determined that it wanted to install a newer version of server. OK, fine.
Went to install the new version, and it wanted me to remove the old. I'm getting a little nervous now, how about a patch.... Anyhow, remove and reinstall and reboot. Of course, SP1 for Vista has apparently killed the driver signing again, so I have to disable them on another reboot.
Alright. Second reboot, driver signing disabled by F8, VMware server starts. I go to add my existing machines, and I get a new error that there were more features in the previous version than the new one, and that it won't start.
This never used to happen when I used my Ubuntu VMware server.... I never upgraded that in the year or so I ran it.
