I am running the free VMWare Server. The host system is Windows 2003 R2. I have a virtual session running Windows XP Pro SP3. I have a virtual disk allocated for the XP OS and it works fine. I also have an IDE drive in the server which is connected to T: in the virtual session (it is also T: on the host system). I am able to download files and place them onto the drive in the XP session, but these files do not appear on the T: on the host. I have tried setting the disk independent-persistent, disabling snapshots (and of course rebooted the virtual machine), and still no luck. Whatever files are added to that drive on the XP session are lost when the virtual system is restarted. I've googled but haven't found anything about this. I want the shared drive to be written to in real time. What am I possibly doing wrong?
