I've installed VMWare 1.06 on a fresh box with Windows XP SP3, all Microsoft Updates applied. Directly after installation, I attempted to create a new VM of Windows XP. I completed the wizard, put in a Windows XP bootable CD into the drive and attempted to power on the VM. It failed citing this error in the messagebox: "Virtual Machine failed to start."
I checked the event log for errors and found this:
The description for Event ID ( 100 ) in Source ( vmauthd ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: VMware process did not start properly.
I get an entry for this message every time I power on the VM.
Has anyone run into this problem?
