I have looked at old posts to see if this issue already has been answered but didn't see any that specify the same conditions I have ran into.
I have VMWare server 2.0.1 installed on my Laptop, a DELL Latitude D630. In the network setup I have excluded the bluetooth adapter so VMWare is not using this adapter. The adapters it can use are the Physical LAN or the Wreles LAN connections and it depends on where I am what is enabled. (When Physical LAN is available I turn off (Dsiable) the Wireless LAN and when I have to use Wireless, I disable the Physical LAN. This way VMWare alwys will try to use the correct adapter.
To use the VMWare setup I have (Guest image 1 = DC / Guest image 2 = Application Server / Guest image 3 = hot standby application server), I had to set the DC up with a fixed IP address and the others 2 with a VMWare DHCP given one. Since my Host IP address will change form location to location where I need this setup I decided use NAT so I have the same network addresses (bound by the DC needed in this setup, to have a fixed address) regardless where I am.
I find however that the VMWare NAT does not provide the Default Gateway address it is setup with to the two guest images, nor to the host VMWare adapters. The entris in the LAN settings under ipconfig /all are all blank (for both on HOST and GUEST).
When I logon to the DC guest image I cannot ping the outside world or reverse from the outside world to the DC. I can ping between the guest images.
I don't understand as to why the Default Gateway is not populated in the DHCP given address and why the DC cannot ping to the outside world with the default gateway manually set.
Any help and ideas appriciated,
~JH
