VMWare Server guest can't ping APC UPS

I am running server 1.03.

Host is windows 2k3 sp1, latest hotfixes, static IP address, no firewall

guest is suse 10.2, fedora 7, and w 2k3 sp1, all static IP.  All can ping host and default gw

for some reason, I can't ping any APC UPS network management modules on our network from any of the guest OS's, but can from the host.  Tried this on 2 different host machines, same result.  Any idea why?
