I currently do all my virtualisation projects on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, but have been keeping track with interest the development of new CPU's with integrated virtualisation technologies; namely, AMD-V and Intel VT.
I'm curious as to what sort of real-world benefits these technologies bring to the end-user? If I upgraded my CPU to an Intel or AMD processor with virtualisation extensions, would this result in any significant speed increase in virtualisation (or other benefits), or would the increased clock speed be the main benefit.
Basically, I'm just wanting some plain advice as to the real value of these virtualisation-enabled CPU's to a consumer who plays with virtualisation technology.
